1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to your use of the website at virtualtexttools.com and every tool, guide and page on it (together, the "Site"). The Site is operated by Virtual Text Tools ("we," "us," or "our").

By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

2. What the Site provides

The Site offers free browser-based utilities for working with text, code and images, including word and character counting, case conversion, list sorting and de-duplication, find and replace, text comparison, encoding and decoding, JSON formatting, hashing, password and QR code generation, and image conversion and compression. It also publishes guides explaining how these tools work.

The tools are free and need no account. We may add, change or remove tools or features at any time, and we do not promise that any particular tool will remain available.

3. Your content stays on your device

Every tool runs entirely in your web browser using JavaScript. The text you type or paste, and the files or images you load, are processed on your own device. They are not sent to our servers, and we do not store, view or keep copies of them.

You keep all rights to your content and to the output the tools produce from it. Because we never receive your content, you are responsible for it, including making sure you have the right to use and process it.

A small number of tools load an open-source code library from a public content delivery network the first time you use them (for example, the HEIC converter and the QR code generator). These libraries run in your browser like the rest of the Site. Your content is not sent to the network that hosts them.

4. Acceptable use

You may use the Site for any lawful personal, educational or commercial purpose. You agree not to:

• Use the Site to break any law, or to create or process content that infringes anyone else's rights
• Attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorized access to the Site or the servers that host it
• Scrape the Site in bulk, or use automated means to access it in a way that degrades it for other visitors
• Click on advertisements, or generate impressions, artificially or through automated means
• Copy the Site's design, guides or code and present them as your own

5. Accuracy and no warranty

We work to keep every tool accurate, but they are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

Results can differ from other software. For example, word and sentence counts may not exactly match a word processor or a submission portal, and image conversion and compression change file quality and size. Check any result before relying on it for anything important, such as an assignment limit, production code or a legal document.

MD5 and SHA-1 hashes are offered for checksums and compatibility only and are not suitable for security. Passwords are generated with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, but keeping them safe is up to you. We never see them.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Virtual Text Tools will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or business, arising from your use of the Site or your inability to use it. Because the Site is free and your content never leaves your device, our total liability for any claim relating to the Site is limited to zero dollars ($0), except where the law does not allow that limitation.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded or liability to be limited, so some of the limits above may not apply to you.

7. Intellectual property

The Site's design, written guides, graphics, logo and code are owned by Virtual Text Tools and protected by copyright. You may link to any page, and you may quote short passages with a link back to the source.

Open-source libraries used by the Site remain under their own licenses. Output you create with the tools belongs to you.

8. Advertising, analytics and third-party services

The Site may display advertising served by Google AdSense, and uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site. These services run only after you consent through our cookie banner, and they may set cookies. Our Privacy Policy explains this in detail, including how to change your choices.

The Site may also link to other websites. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or practices.

9. Privacy

Your use of the Site is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes the limited data the Site collects and your rights over it, including rights for California residents.

10. Children

The Site is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. Students are welcome to use the tools for schoolwork. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, as explained in our Privacy Policy.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If you keep using the Site after an update, you accept the revised Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
